ROCK ISLAND/WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University track and field teams competed in a pair of meets this weekend at Augustana College and Wheaton College.
At the Meet of Champions at Augustana on Friday, the women finished in fourth-place as a team with a score of 62 points, while the men tallied 42 points for an eighth-place finish.
On the women's side,
Ava David checked into third-place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.10 seconds. David also earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.60 seconds, which is currently the fastest time in the CCIW.
Naomi Jones clocked in a 1:00.43 time in the 400-meter dash for a fourth-place finish, while
Alyssa Rafuse crossed the finish line second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:38.77.
In the 5000-meter run, the Bluejays finished with four runners in the top 10. Leading the way was
Annie Bieda who finished in sixth-place with a time of 19:09.45.
Esther Brown earned an eighth-place finish with a 19:17.15, while
Molly Glover and
Natalie Wagner finished in ninth and tenth-place with times of 19:44.45 and 20:31.25 respectively.
Nakala Nadeau checked into second-place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.23 seconds.
Anna Kovats placed 13
th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:39.99, while the 4x100 relay team featuring
Lauren Marshall,
Hannah Schwarz,
Hanna Matuszewski and David earned a third-place finish with a time of 48.61 seconds.
Kelsey Becker finished 12
th in the pole vault with a cleared height of 3.13 meters, while Marshall jumped into ninth-place with a distance of 5.12 meters in the long jump.
Erin Matthias checked into sixth-place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.59 meters.
Vanessa Carr followed closely behind in the same event with a distance of 10.53 meters for an eighth-place finish.
On the men's side, Rickey Martinez checked into 13
th-place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 seconds. That time ranks fourth in the conference and was a PR for Martinez.
Braxston Redmond finished 17
th in the 200-meter dash with a 22.49 and third-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.74 seconds.
James Palumbo earned a 15
th-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:14.29, while
Dylan Moran captured the event title in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:39.02.
The 4x100 relay team, featuring Michael Colant,
Eric Jandura, Nate Munoz and
Luca Ferrantelli, clocked in a 47.99 second time to earn a seventh-place finish.
In the field events, Brett von Schwedler cleared a height of 1.82 meters to finish in seventh-place in the height jump, while
Logan Turney placed 11
th in the pole vault with a cleared height of 4.18 meters.
Martinez jumped into seventh-place in the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters, while teammate
Patrick Campbell jumped 12.81 meters in the triple jump for a fifth-place finish.
Von Schwedler also placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 43.18 meters.
At the Wheaton Don Church Twilight meet on Saturday,
Kelsey Becker and
Kate Weber finished in first and second-place respectively in the pole vault with cleared heights of 3.20 meters and 3.05 meters.
Ericka Creek checked into 10
th-place in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.60 meters.
Andrew Wieser placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.38 seconds, while Chris Pedersen earned a 10
th-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.70 meters.
The Bluejay track and field teams prepare for the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday, April 28 at Wheaton College.
