Bluejay Track and Field Compete at Tadd Metzger Multi, Windy City Rumble

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's and women's track and field teams competed in a pair of events this past weekend, running at the Tadd Metzger Multi Invitational on Friday, Feb. 3 and the Windy City Rumble on Saturday, Feb. 4. 

Caroline Slater and Sarah Stephens kicked off the weekend for the Bluejays in Kenosha, Wis. Friday evening competing in the women's indoor pentathlon. Sarah Stephens completed the event in seventh place in the women's indoor pentathlon, scoring 2,188 points across five events. She placed fifth in the high jump with a 1.46 meter distance, and fifth in the shot put with a distance of 9.08 meters. Slater competed in four events for the Bluejays, with her best finish being a tenth in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal-best 11.67.

On Saturday, both teams had strong showings at the Windy City Rumble with the men finishing in third place out of eight teams and the women finishing in a tie for second place in a field of ten teams.

In the 60-meter finals, Jeremy Inniss finished in seventh place with a time of 7.30 after qualifying for the finals with a personal-best 7.26, while Braxston Redmond finished just behind Inniss in eighth place with a time of 7.51, again qualifying with a personal-best time of 7.40. Redmond continued his day with a second-place finish in the 200-meter with a time of 23.09, just .03 seconds away from setting a new personal-best.

Heading to the distance runs, Colin Moran placed third in the men's 3000-meters with a time of 9:07.04, and teammates Glen Garino and Preston Bailey finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, in the 5000 meters with times of 17:05.03 and 17:20.77. In the 60-meter hurdles, Eric Jandura finished in fifth with a 9.14 while TJ McNamara finished in seventh in the same event with a time of 9.67. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Jamal Slaven, Redmond, James Palumbo, and Marvin Tchangwa finished third in the event with a time of 3:33.73 to wrap up the running events for the men. 

In the field, the men tallied up a combined five top-five finishes on the day. Freshman Logan Turney finished in third place in the pole vault with a personal-best 3.99 meter (13' 1") jump, while Matt Tobin finished in fifth-place with a mark of 3.84-meters (12' 7.25"). Uzair Ali placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.43-meters (21' 1.25"), while Inniss continued his strong day with a fourth-place finish in the event and a 6.42-meter (21' 0.75") mark. In the triple jump, Patrick Campbell used a personal-best mark of 12.89-meters (42' 3.5") to place third in the event, while Rickey Martinez notched a fourth-place finish with a 12.69-meter (41' 7.75") mark to wrap up the day for the Bluejay men.

The women put forth their highest team finish of the season at the Windy City Rumble, combining for 16 top-five finishes on the day en route to 107 team points to finish in a tie for second with Hope College. Starting in the 60 Meters, Huda Hussaini set a new personal-best time of 7.82 to finish second in the event. Her time currently ranks second in the CCIW. Fellow classmate Ava David placed third in the 60-meter with a 7.84, while junior Lauren Marshall tabbed a fifth-place finish with a time of 8.03. In the 400-meter, Naomi Jones claimed the first event title of the day for the Bluejays, running a 1:00.96 to pace the field, while sophomore Venezia Munoz finished fourth with a time of 1:03.60. Alyssa Rafuse also added a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:24.14 in the women's 800-meter. 

In the distance events, Esther Brown and Ella Enders paced the Bluejays with third and fifth place finishes each, while Molly Glover finished fourth in the 5000 meters. Nakala Nadeau put on a tremendous race in the 60 Hurdles, placing second with a time of 8.99 which currently ranks second in the CCIW. In the relay events, the team of Hussaini, Jones, Sadie Hartmann, and Nadeau placed third in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 4:14.20, a time that currently ranks second in the conference. Finally, the team of Brown, David, Munoz, and Nadeau finished in fourth-place in the distance medly relay with a time of 12:32.95. The team's time tops the CCIW performance list and ranks seventh in the nation. 

Heading to the field, Kelsey Becker notched a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.19 meters (10' 5.5"), while Marshall finished fifth in the long jump with a 5.18 meter (17' 0") mark. Becker's mark ranks ninth in the CCIW, while Marshall's ranks fifth in the conference in the long jump. In the triple jump, Vanessa Carr marked a 10.29 meter (33' 9.25") to finish third in the triple jump, ranking fifth in the CCIW with her mark last Saturday.

The Bluejay men and women will head to Allendale, Mich. next Friday, Feb. 10 for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.
