Bluejay Track and Field Teams Have Strong Showing at Slick Invite

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the North Central College Slick Invitational on Friday, Feb. 17.

The women dominated the competition earning a first-place finish with a team score of 146.5.

Ava David won the event title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 seconds. Huda Hussaini and Lauren Marshall finished in second and fourth place respectively with times of 7.74 and 7.84 seconds.

David took the 200-meter dash title as well with a time of 25.29 seconds, while Hussaini checked into the fourth-place spot with a 26.17. Hannah Schwarz and Naomi Jones also scored for the Bluejays in the event with sixth and eighth place finishes.

Venezia Munoz won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.11, while teammate Esther Brown clocked into third-place with a 2:25.68.

Nakala Nadeau earned the event title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds, while the 4x400 relay featuring Sadie Hartmann, Molly Roberts, Brown and Nadeau finished third in the event with a time of 4:22.27.

The Bluejays took spots 1-7 in the 3000 meters with Alyssa Rafuse leading the way and taking the event title with a 10:44.70. Annie Bieda checked into second-place with an 11:31.68 and Ella Enders into third-place with an 11:49.21.

In the field events, Angelina Camaci cleared a height of 1.43 meters in the high jump for a sixth-place finish, with teammate Sarah Stephens following closely behind with a cleared height of 1.38 meters for a seventh-place finish.

Kate Weber and Kelsey Becker both placed in pole vault with cleared heights of 3.20 meters and 3.05 meters for fifth and sixth place finishes respectively.

Marshall placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.48 meters, while Francesca Scarabaggio jumped 5.22 meters four a sixth-place finish.

Vanessa Carr jumped 10.86 meters in the triple jump to earn a fourth-place finish, while Erin Matthias checked into sixth-place with a 10.45-meter jump. Ericka Creek earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 12.26 meters.

On the men's side, Braxston Redmond secured the event title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.89 seconds. In the 800-meter run Marvin Tchangwa clocked in a 1:59.67 time to earn a sixth-place finish.

Hector Herrera finished the 5000 meters in eighth-place with a time of 17:21.36, while Eric Jandura checked into fifth-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.01.

In the field events, Brett von Schwedler finished fourth in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.63 meters.

Logan Turney and Matt Tobin checked into third and fourth-place respectively in pole vault each clearing 4.10 meters. Rickey Martinez finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters. Teammates Patrick Campbell and Uzair Ali jumped 6.26 meters and 6.04 meters to finish fourth and sixth in the event.

Martinez, Campbell and Ali checked into the third, sixth and seventh spots in the triple jump as well, while Chris Pedersen finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 12.12 meters and seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 11.44 meters.

As a team, the men finished in fourth-place with a score of 64.5.

Both squads are back in action on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 at the CCIW Indoor Championships in Bloomington, Ill.
