KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst University men's track and field team returned to action for the first time in 2022 by placing sixth at Carthage College's Firebird Opener.
Competing with just a small amount of student-athletes, the Bluejays totaled 35 points to place sixth out of nine squads.
Matt Tobin was the top finisher for Elmhurst, winning the pole vault and totaling 10 ream points after clearing a height of 4.10 meters.
Elmhurst added 14 points in the jumps.
Uzair Ali scored six team points for Elmhurst in the long jump. Ali recorded a lead of 6.63 meters on his second-to-last attempt to place third overall. Ricky Martinez and Brett von Schwedler finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the high jump. Martinez cleared 1.72 meters in his first attempt to place fifth while von Schwedler cleared the same height on his third attempt to finish sixth. Elmhurst added a point in the triple jump after von Schwedler recorded a jump of 11.80 meters, good for eighth place.
Andrew Wieser scored five team points with a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, breaking the finish line in 9.52 seconds.
Andrew Matuszewski added a team-point with an eighth-place finish in the mile run, completing the race in 4:37.07.
Jeremy Lodewyck narrowly missed scoring team points in the 3,000 meters, placing ninth in 9:25.17.
Elmhurst's 4x400 relay team of Matuszewski, Ali,
Adrian Campos and Wieser finished in sixth place in a time of 3:45.20.
Elmhurst will compete at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational on January 28.
