Men's Track Team Takes Fifth at EU Opener

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's track and field team placed fifth at the Elmhurst University Outdoor Opener, the Bluejays first home track and field meet in over a decade.  
 
Elmhurst totaled 44.5 points in the team standings. Loras College won the team title with 166 points while University of Chicago finished second (133) and Benedictine University placed third (85). Wheaton finished fourth with 75.5 points.
 
Jeremy Inniss and Stefan Postman both scored points in the jumps. Inniss placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.82 meters. Postman placed seventh in the event with a jump of 5.64 meters.  Brett von Schwedler added an eighth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters and a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.40 meters.
 
Chris Pederson placed first in the shot put after recording a toss of 12.57 meters. Thomas Schwartz placed third in the shot put (8.89 meters) and added a team point in the discus with an eighth-place finish after a throw of 28.93 meters.

James Palumbo finished sixth in the 1,500 meters to score three team points. Palumbo finished the race in 4:20.51.

Andrew Wieser added a fifth-place finish in the 110 hurdles, finishing the race in 20.48 seconds. Wieser added a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.33.
 
Rayneal Mitchell scored a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57 seconds.
 
Elmhurst will travel to North Central College on April 2.
