KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst men's track and field team opened the 2021 indoor season by finishing second at the Carthage College Triangular.

The Bluejays placed second with 76 points while Carthage finished first with 163 points. North Park totaled 31 points to finish third.

Elmhurst opened the day with 14 points in the jumps. Brett von Schwedler scored five points with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.63 meters. Von Schwedler added three points with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 11.72 meters.
Jeremy Inniss and
Stefan Postman totaled six points between them in the long jump. Inniss placed second with a mark of 6.15 meters while Postman placed sixth with a mark of 5.82 meters.

The Bluejays added 25 points in the sprints and hurdles.
Luca Ferrantelli and Ryneal Mitchell both scored points in the 55-meter dash. Ferrantelli placed second in 6.87 seconds while Mitchell finished third in 6.89 seconds. Ferrantelli, Mitchell and Inniss all scored points in the 200 meters. Ferrentelli placed fourth (24.20 seconds) while Mitchell finished right behind in fifth place (24.76 seconds). Inniss added a seventh-place finish and one team point by finishing the race in 25.21 seconds. Andrew Weiser added four points with a third-place finish in the 55 hurdles, completing the race in 9.70 seconds. Weiser added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 57.53 seconds.

The Bluejays scored 17 points in the distance events. Jamel Saven,
Jackson Hudec and
Brian Santos all scored points for the Bluejays in the 800 meters. Slaven placed third in 2:08.01. Hudec (2:17.40) and Santos (2:19.13) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Andrew Matuszewski and
Xavier Ahuad totaled nine points in the mile run. Matuszewski won the race in 4:44.72 while Ahuad finished sixth in 5:14.95.
Josphat Langat scored a point for the Bluejays in the 3,000 meters, placing sixth in 10:05.47.

Matt Tobin took home first-place honors in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.65 meters in his opening attempt. Chris Pedersen scored a fourth-place finish in the shot put, registering a toss of 12.16 meters in his second-to-last throw.

Elmhurst added a pair of second-place finishes in the relays. The Bluejays' distance medley relay squad of Javier De la Torre, Santos, Matuszewski and Slaven placed second in 12:17.80. Elmhurst's 4x400 squad of
Hayden Szaltis, Hudec, Ahuad and Tobin finished the race in 4:12.39 to place second.
