ORLANDO, Fla. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team suffered losses to Lawrence University and Luther College on its spring break trip to Florida.
Elmhurst slipped to 0-12 on the season after falling 8-1 to Lawrence and 9-0 to Luther.
LAWRENCE 8, ELMHURST 1 - Lawrence scored an 8-1 win by taking all three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests.
In doubles play, David Jumes and Bill Schuman-Kline toppled Elmhurst's
Kyle Endicott and
Jackson Lindquist 8-3 at No. 1. Connor Maloney and David Brooker downed
Brandon Fulmer and
Kevin Osburn 8-5 at No. 2 doubles while Cade Francour and Aidan Delgado stopped Elmhurst's
Grant O'Connell and
David Wilson 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, Jumes toppled Endicott 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 while Schuman-Kline downed Fulmer 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2. Maloney upended Lindquist 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 while Francour needed three sets (6-3, 1-6, 10-7) to stop Osburn at No. 4. Delgado defeated O'Connell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 for Lawrence's eighth point. Elmhurst scored its only point at No. 6 singles when Wilson outlasted Izaya Turenne 3-6, 7-5, 11-9.
LUTHER 7, ELMHURST 2 - Luther swept all nine matches en route to the shutout win.
Anders Jensen and Nate Parsons combined to defeat Endicott and Lindquist 8-6 at No. 1 doubles while Kyle Appel and Sam Buffington defeated Fulmer and Osburn 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Kenny Goins and Brian Murman blanked O'Connell and Wilson 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Trent Schneider defeated Endicott 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 while Jensen upstaged Fulmer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Murman defeated Lindquist 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 while Jake Smith stopped Osburn 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. At. No. 5 singles, Luther's Cam Long defeated O'Connell 7-5, 6-1. Brendan Londergan closed out singles play with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Wilson at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst plays at Augustana College on Saturday, March 25.
