DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's tennis team continued its spring season on Friday morning with a road matchup against CCIW opponent Millikin University, ultimately falling 7-0 at the Fairview Tennis Center.
The Bluejays (1-6) faced a well-rounded Millikin squad (9-8) that took control early in doubles play and carried the momentum into singles competition.
In doubles action, Elmhurst dropped both contested matches. At No. 1 doubles, Russell Reyes and Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza fell 6-0 to Millikin's Cole Phillips and Clayton Maack. On court two, Adrian Songco and Roberto Koziol also lost by a 6-0 score to the Big Blue pairing of Theo Wolf and Matthew Kordesh. Millikin claimed the No. 3 doubles match by default, giving them the early doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Millikin continued its strong play in singles, sweeping all six matches. Reyes led the Bluejays at the No. 1 position but came up short, 6-1, 6-0, to Wolf. Montenegro-Galarza put up a more competitive second set at No. 2 but was defeated by Maack, 6-0, 6-4. In the middle of the lineup, Songco and Koziol each dropped 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. At the No. 5 spot, Isaac Puchalla managed to take a game in the first set before falling 6-1, 6-0 to Max Macke. Millikin also secured a default victory at No. 6 singles.
