ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Carthage College in a CCIW matchup on Saturday morning at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
Carthage (17-6, 6-1 CCIW) swept all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza and Russell Reyes put up a strong effort but came up short in a 6-4 loss. Isaac Puchalla and Caden Sultzbaugh fell 6-0 at the No. 2 spot, while the Bluejays were forced to forfeit the No. 3 match.
In singles play, the Firebirds claimed all six contests, including another forfeit at No. 6. Russell Reyes battled at No. 1 singles but was defeated 6-1, 6-0. Montenegro-Galarza competed at No. 2 and dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Sultzbaugh and Adrian Songco both fell by identical 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Roberto Koziol was edged 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot.
The loss drops Elmhurst to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the CCIW.
