WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's tennis team almost overcame a doubles sweep, but ended up placing fourth after a 5-4 loss to Augustana.

The Vikings (15-11) took the three doubles matches fairly easily before the Bluejays battled back to win three three-set matches in singles.

Augustana used two quick wins to put the pressure on Elmhurst. At No. 1 doubles the Vikings won 8-1 over
Chris Harrison and
Quinn Jennings and, at No. 2, the Bluejays'
Ricardo Franco and
Alex Abbuhl dropped an 8-2 decision.
Justin Delawder and
Kyle Endicott stayed close at No. 3 in the beginning portions, but their counterparts won three of the last four games to come out victorious 8-4.

In singles, Augustana won two of the three matches that finished in straight sets to take the victory. At No. 2, Jennings routed Pohl 6-0, 6-1 to wrap up his illustrious career as a Bluejay. Jennings finished his career with 64 singles victories (tied for third all-time in Elmhurst history). His 14 wins at No. 2 singles this year puts him in a tie for fourth in wins at the position in a single season.

The Vikings sealed the match with two-set wins at No. 5 and No. 3. Jack Morkin defeated Franco 6-3, 6-4 and Patrick Lenz clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Abbuhl.

Elmhurst won three three-set matches to make the final score 5-4. Delawder finished off his Elmhurst career with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 6 over Austin Schoeck, the same player he lost to 6-3, 6-1 on April 24. Endicott, a junior, also came out with a win 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 at No. 4. After losing the first set 6-0, Harrison battled back to finish his career in style. The Bluejay won the second set 6-4 before outlasting his opponent 13-11 in the third-set super tiebreaker.

Harrison, one of two four-year members of this senior class (Jennings), also etched his name into the Elmhurst record book throughout his career. His 56 singles wins ranks eighth all-time in Elmhurst history, while his 21 wins in 2013 ranks as the third highest win total for any Elmhurst player in the single season. Harrison also won two individual conference championships in 2013 and 2014 at No. 6 singles (based on regular season results).
