RACINE, Wis. –
Quinn Jennings finished the season undefeated in CCIW play at No. 2 singles as the Elmhurst men's tennis team fell to Carthage 8-1.
Jennings bested another CCIW unbeaten, Carthage's Ryan Jump in two tight sets 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles play, the Red Men (19-6, 6-0 CCIW) jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Bluejays (6-11, 3-3 CCIW) dropped both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches by 8-4 scores. Elmhurst's Jennings and
Chris Harrison played Pawel Jaworski and Chris Conley, ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA Central Region rankings, very close, but dropped a 9-7 decision.
In singles action, Carthage took two of the next three matches to clinch the victory. Jennings earned Elmhurst its only point, but Carthage started notching points at the bottom of the lineup. Alex Feruzzi defeated
Justin Delawder 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6, Lucasz Jaworski beat
Ricardo Franco 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5, Chris Conley took out
Kyle Endicott in two tight sets 6-3, 7-6(3), and P. Jaworski came out on top over
Alex Abbuhl 6-2, 7-5.
The final match of the day when three sets, as Harrison battled with Alex Boomgarden who is ranked No. 20 in the Central Region. After Boomgarden won the first set 6-3, Harrison took the second 7-5. Tied at 2-2 in the third, Boomgarden outlasted the Bluejay by taking four of the last five games for a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory.
Elmhurst is projected to face Millikin (15-5, 2-3 CCIW) in the first round of the CCIW Tournament next weekend. The Bluejays defeated the Big Blue 6-3 on April 17. The CCIW Tournament will be played May 5-7 at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Ill.
