ALBION, Mich. - All six Bluejays contributed with victories as the Elmhurst men's tennis team earned its first win of the season, 7-2 over Albion.
The Bluejays (1-2) took a 2-1 lead after doubles and won five of the six singles matches on their way to the victory.
Elmhurst took the first point of the match as
Alex Abbuhl and
Chris Wallace cruised to an 8-4 victory over Robert Jeorg and Nick Kinachtchouk at No. 3 doubles. Trailing 7-4 at No. 1, Elmhurst's
Chris Harrison and
Quinn Jennings pulled back within one with a break and a hold, but Zach McKenzie served out an 8-6 victory to pull Albion even. The Bluejays took a 2-1 lead into singles play when
Justin Delawder and
Kyle Endicott took the final two games to defeat Peter Pappas and Patrick Barclay 9-7.
The Bluejays started hot in singles as both Harrison and Jennings easily took the first sets over their respective opponents at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Jennings closed out a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pappas to extend the Elmhurst lead to 3-1. Trailing 4-0 in the second set, Harrison rattled off six straight games to defeat Ross Kynast 6-1, 6-4 and put Elmhurst on the brink at 4-1.
Albion pulled one closer as Joerg took down Wallace 6-4, 6-3. With three matches left on court, Abbuhl clinched the Elmhurst victory with a comeback 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-1 victory over McKenzie.
Endicott and Delawder only dropped one combined game in their singles victories to complete Elmhurst's 7-2 win. Endicott finished a 6-1, 6-0 win over Barclay and Delawder blanked Kinachtchouk 6-0, 6-0.
The win completes Elmhurst's three-game road swing. The Bluejays' home opener is
this Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m against Monmouth College at Courts Plus.
