KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst men's tennis team closed the book on its 2015 season by placing fourth at the CCIW Championships after falling 6-3 to Wheaton College in the third-place contest.

Wheaton took home wins at two of the three doubles contests to open play. The Thunder's Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner defeated Matthew Kulma and
Ricardo Franco 8-2 at No. 2 doubles while Brent Westergren and Derek Mumaw upended
Quinn Jennings and
Alex Abbuhl 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. Elmhurst scored its doubles victory at No. 1 with Chris Harris and
Luke Tanaka dispatching Josh Ward and Karl Wenzel 8-4.

Singles play was a battle with two of the matches headed to a third set, including one that was decided by tiebreaker. Abbuhl scored a win at No. 5 singles to even the score at 2-2 after Wenzel was forced to retire. Lincoln Metz put the Thunder back in front with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kulma at No. 4 singles, but Takanka quickly evened the score at 3-3 by defeating Steiner 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Ancona defeated Jennings at No. 2 singles 7-6, 7-6 with both sets being decided by tiebreaker. The last two sets matches came down to a third set with Ward upending Harris 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Mumaw stopping Franco 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Elmhurst closed out the season with a 9-11 overall record.
