ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 2-2 in the CCIW following an 8-1 loss to Carthage College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Carthage 15-6, 4-0 CCIW opened by play by sweeping all three doubles contests. Pawel Jaworski and Jordan Verbauwhede combined to defeat
Chris Harrison and
Luke Tanaka 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Alex Boomgarden and Chris Conley toppled the Bluejays' duo of
Matt Kulma and
Ricardo Franco 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Ryan Jump and Alex Ferruzzi defeated Elmhurst's
Quinn Jennings and
Allen Riquelme 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst scored its only point of the day at No. 1 singles when Harrison defeated Jaworski 7-5, 6-1. Boomgarden downed Tanaka 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles while Jump took down Jennings 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Verbauwhede stopped Kulma 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles while Conley defeated Franco 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Ferruzi closed play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Riquelme at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst (7-5 overall) travels to Augustana College on Thursday, April 16.
