ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team opened the 2015 season by falling 7-0 to the University of Illinois-Chicago, a Division I opponent, at Courts Plus. 
 

UIC swept all nine matches en route to shutout victory (doubles counted as one point). The Flames' duo of Carl Hedstrom and Maurizio Feoli combined to topple Luke Tanaka and Chris Harrison 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Isaac Lloveras and Mitch Granger downed Elmhurst's pairing of Matt Kulma and Ricardo Franco 6-1. The Flames finished doubles play with a Christopher Cole and Nate Campanile 6-3 win over Elmhurst's Quinn Jennings and Alex Abbuhl at No. 3 doubles.

In singles competition, Tanaka dropped a 7-6 tiebreaker in the opening set before falling 6-0 in the second at Lloveras at No. 1 singles. Cole clipped Harrison 6-2 in the opening set and used a 7-6 tiebreaker victory in the second set to earn a win at No. 2 singles. Jennings fell to Louis Theodor 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Abbuhl dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Hedstrom at No. 4 singles. Feoli upended Kulma 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singls while Granger toppled Franco 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Elmhurst faces Wabash and Lake Forest on Sunday, February 15.
