ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team wrapped up the CCIW portion of its schedule with a 6-3 victory over Augustana College, finishing unbeaten in conference competition with a perfect 6-0 record.
Augustana (15-10, 3-3) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after taking two of the three doubles contests.
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung combined for Elmhurst to defeat Lawrence Palmer and Andy Wall 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Colin Arnold and Kevin Bayles downed Elmhurst's
Luke Tanaka and
Chris Harrison 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and the Vikings' duo of Connor Wolf and Austin Schoeck stopped
Vincent McPherson and
Quinn Jennings 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst took over in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Harbert scored a win over Palmer by default at No. 1 singles. Jung followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wall at No. 2 singles. Bayles scored the Vikings' only point in singles competition at No. 3, defeating McPherson 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Tanaka cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Arnold at No. 4 singles and Jennings dispatched Woolf in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 10-6) at No. 5 singles. Harrison toppled Patrick Lenz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Sunday, April 27.
