WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 11-4 on the season after falling 8-1 to Wisconsin-Whitewater in a battle of two regionally-ranked squads.
UW-Whitewater (16-7), ranked seventh in the ITA Central region, bested Elmhurst, ranked 15th in the region, by winning all three doubles contests and five singles matches.
In doubles play, UW-Whitewater's Byron Balkin and Jake Humprehys combined to defeat
Will Jung and
Alex Harbert 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Ben Shklyar and Kevin Friend defeated Elmhurst's
Luke Tanaka and
Chris Harrison 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman and Brian Klein topped Elmhurst's
Vincent McPherson and
Quinn Jennings 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Humphrys downed Jung 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Elmhurst scored its only point of the day at No. 2 singles with Harbert toppling Shklyar 6-3, 0-6, 10-3. Balkin edged Tanaka 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles while Raman stopped Jennings 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Klein downed Harrison 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and Michael Schnarr topped Elmhurst's
Matthew Kulma 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Bluejays will take nine days off before traveling to Wheaton College on April 22, in a battle of two of the top-ranked teams in the CCIW.
