Elmhurst Drops Rubber Game Against Otterbein

Box Score XENIA, Ohio - The Elmhurst baseball team dropped the rubber game of a three-game series against Otterbein University, falling 11-10 to slip to 1-2 on the season.

Otterbein used a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to come away with the one-run victory.

Otterbein plated three runs in the first to take a quick lead, but the Bluejays scored three runs in the top of the third to even the score at four. Zach Tsiodras cracked a solo homer and Greg Struck singled home a pair of runs to account for Elmhurst's three-run third.

Otterbein reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Bluejays pulled even in the fourth when bases loaded walks to Tom Pumo and Struck forced home two runs.

Otterbein (2-1), scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to open up a 10-6 lead, but the Bluejays rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth. RBI singles from Dave Wolak and Tsiodras cut the Cardinals' lead in half. An RBI groundout from Pumo pulled the Bluejays to within a run and Eric Stevenson singled home the tying run for Elmhurst. 

With two on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Mark Walton singled home the winning run to lift Otterbein to the win.

Ryan Millan made the start and took a no-decision for Elmhurst, scattering six runs (just one earned) and six hits over six innings of work. Erik Swanson took the loss in relief, allowing one run on two hits.

Elmhurst plays a doubleheader against the University of Dubuque on Monday, March 10, in Jacksonville, Ill.
