DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Bluejays would take an early lead on Tuesday morning, but an 8th-inning rally would see Kalamazoo (Mich.) move in front and take the win, 15-4 over Elmhurst at the RussMatt Invitational.

Brett Vercruysse would get the Jays on the board in the 2nd inning, with a solo shot for the early 1-0 lead. After being held to just one hit over the first three frames, Kalamazoo would answer in the top of the 4th, with a pair of two-out singles to tie the game at 1-1.

Elmhurst had their biggest rally of the day in the bottom of the 4th, scoring three runs on four hits. The first three Jays would reach on singles, with Vercruysse's base hit brining home Rock Smith. Colin Adams then doubled down the left field line, scoring two to put Elmhurst in front, 4-1.

The Hornets got a run back in the top of the 6th with a leadoff home run, and tied the game at 4-4 in the 7th inning with a two-run shot. Kalamazoo took control in the top of the 8th however, scoring a total of nine runs, on six hits, two walks, and three batters being hit by pitches.

Vercruysse led the Bluejays at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Adams had the other extra-base hit for the Jays, going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Elmhurst will look to close out their Florida trip on a positive note as they take on Purchase (N.Y.) in their RussMatt Invite finale on Wednesday, March 25 at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
