RACINE, Wis. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team upped its record to 6-1 overall after clipping Carthage College 5-4 at the Racine Racquet & Fitness Club.
Elmhurst and Carthage (9-4, 0-1 CCIW) split the three singles contests while the Bluejays won two of the three doubles contests to take home the victory.
Elmhurst's duo of
Alex Harbert and WIll Jung toppled Pawel Jaworski and Chris Conley 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Carthage's Alex Boomgarden and Ryan Jump defeated
Chris Harrison and
Vincent McPherson 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, but the Bluejays' duo of
Luke Tanaka and David Devaney put Elmhurst in front with a 9-7 win over Tony O'Connell and Alex Ferruzi at No. 3 doubles.
Boomgarden edged Harbert 7-6, 7-6 at No. 1 singles but Jung defeated Jump 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Jaworski needed three sets to edge McPherson (7-6, 6-7, 7-5) at No. 3 singles and Conley followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tanaka at No. 4 singles. Elmhurst's
Quinn Jennings dispatched O'Connell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and Harrison closed out singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ferruzzi at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University next Friday, March 21, at Courts Plus.
