Men's Tennis Team Downs Wooster & Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team upped its record to 4-1 on the season by scoring identical 8-1 victories over the College of Wooster and Wabash College.

ELMHURST 8, WOOSTER 1 - Elmhurst swept all three doubles contests and won five of the six singles contests en route to an 8-1 win over Wooster. Alex Harbert and Will Jung edged Willy Nelson and Milo Saurman 9-7 at No. 1 doubles while Chris Harrison and Vincent McPherson toppled Jack Buchan and Daivs Elkins 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Luke Tanaka and David Devaney finished doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Paul Thomas at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Harbert upended Nelson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while McPherson dispatched Harrison Suttle 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Tanaka defeated Saurman 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles while Jennings defeated Pine at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3. Harris scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Buchan at No. 5 singles for Elmhurst. Wooster scored its only point of the day at No. 6 singles when Thomas downed Devaney in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 10-4).

ELMHURST 8, WABASH 1 - Elmhurst won its third consecutive match with an 8-1 victory over Wabash. The Bluejays swept the three doubles contests to open play with Harbert and Jung scoring an 8-4 victory over Wade Miller and Michael Makio at No. 1 doubles. Harrison and McPherson combined to defeat Mark Troiano and Graham McMullen 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while Tanaka and Devaney combined to defeat Nate Koelper and Mazin Hakim 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Wabash scored its only victory at No. 1 singles when Miller toppled Harbert 6-7, 6-0, 10-7. Jung rallied for a three-set win over Makio at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set 4-6, Jung took the second 6-1 and then rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the third to score a 10-8 win. McPherson dispatched Koelper 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles while Tanaka downed Troiano 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Jennings earned a win by default over McMullen at No. 5 singles. Harrison closed out singles competition with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Hakim at No. 6 singles.

Elmhurst hosts Quincy University at Courts Plus on February 28.
