WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team won its fourth straight contest and improved to 3-0 in the CCIW by edging Carthage College 5-4.
Elmhurst (9-7) and Carthage (8-8, 1-2 CCIW) split the six singles matches, but the Bluejays won the contest by taking two out of three doubles matches.
The Bluejays opened doubles play with a pair of wins. Carthage's Jeff Lotz and Alex Boomgarden edged the Bluejays'
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung 9-8 at No. 1 doubles. The Bluejays' duo of
Chris Harrison and
Luke Tanaka blanked Conor Moon and Brandon Curtis 8-0 at No. 2 doubles while
Vincent McPherson and
Kevin Noble downed Ryan Jump and Brian Howes 8-5 at No. 3 singles.
Carthage opened singles play with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Lotz downed Harbert 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Boomgarden upended Jung 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Jump clipped McPherson 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.Tanaka downed Juan Robles 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles for the Bluejays' first singles win. Jennings scored the decisive win for the Bluejays at No. 5 singles, rallying for a three set win (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) over Howes. Harrison dispatched Tom Klassman 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Sunday (April 21).
