HOLLAND, Mich. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 3-4 on the season after dropping a pair of matches at the West Michigan Collegiate Tournament.
Elmhurst opened the day with a 9-0 loss at Kalamazoo College and then closed up the day with a 5-4 loss at Hope College.
KALAMAZOO 9, ELMHURST 0 - Elmhurst suffered a 9-0 loss at the hands of Kalamazoo. The Hornets, ranked ninth in the region, swept all six singles contests and the three double matches en route to the win.
In singles play, Kalamazoo's Peter Rothstein downed 
Alex Harbert 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. The Bluejays' 
Will Jung suffered a 6-1, 7-5 loss to Steve Hanselman at No. 2 singles while 
Vincent McPherson fell in three sets to David DeSimone at No. 3 singles (6-2, 4-6, 6-2). The Hornet's Mike Korn defeated 
Luke Tanaka 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Robert Hudson followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Elmhurst's 
Quinn Jennings and No. 5 singles. Kalamazoo's Alan Faber closed singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over 
Chris Harrison at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Hanselman and Rothstein teamed to defeat Harbert and Jung 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Faber and DeSimone added a 9-8 win over McPherson and 
Kevin Noble at No. 2 doubles while Max Manley and Hudson defeated Tanaka and Harrison 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
HOPE 5, ELMHURST 4 - Elmhurst dropped its third straight contest after falling 5-4 at Hope College.
The Bluejays won two out of the three doubles matches with Harbert and Jung defeating Bobby Cawood and Gabe Casher 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and McPherson and Noble toppling Kyle Kreps and Davis Vanderveen 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Hope's duo ot Jason Muller and Parker Bussies scored a 9-8 tiebreaker win over Tanaka and Harrison at No. 3 doubles.
Hope earned the dual win in singles play, winning four of the six contests. Cawood downed Harbery 7-5, 6-4 at No.1 singles and Bussies followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jung at No. 2 singles. Muller won the third straight singles match for Hope, edging McPherson in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) at No. 3 singles. Tanaka toppled Kreps 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Jennings evened the dual score with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 win over Vanderveen at No. 5 singles. Hope's Jon Panzer toppled Harrison 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 in three sets to hand Hope the 5-4 win.
