Volleyball Team Splits Pair at Wartburg Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DECORAH, Iowa - The Elmhurst volleyball team moved to 20-2 on the season after splitting a pair of matches at the Wartburg College Tournament.

Elmhurst, ranked sixth in the latest AVCA poll, opened the day with a four-set win over Wartburg before falling in four sets to third-ranked University of St. Thomas, in a rematch of last year's NCAA semifinal.

ELMHURST 3, WARTBURG 1 - Elmhurst ran its winning streak to 13 matches with a 25-18, 25-27, 25-23, 25-17 win over Wartburg.

Kaitlyn Wilks powered the Bluejays' offense with 14 kills and two blocks. Megan Reynolds added eight kills and three blocks while Sam Szarmach added 12 kills and 17 digs. Marci Novak totaled 11 kills and seven digs. Lauren Lorenz totaled 21 assists, five aces and nine digs while Katie Rueffer added 20 assists.

ST. THOMAS 3, ELMHURST 1 - The Bluejays suffered their first loss in 14 matches after falling to defending national champion St. Thomas 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25.

Wilks led the Bluejays with 14 kills and five blocks while Szarmach finished with 10 kills and 14 digs. Novak added nine kills and 13 digs while Hannah Nimrick finished with 32 assists and eight kills. Hannah Lessen led the Bluejays in digs with 21 while Reynolds added a team-leading six blocks.

Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Tuesday, October 8.
