ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team swept Alma College, 3-0, in its home opener on Friday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
The Bluejays led wire-to-wire in the opening set with
Samantha Webb putting down the first and last kill of the frame. Elmhurst (4-5) took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 set one win.
The Blue and White found themselves ahead early to start the second set, but a 4-0 run by the Scots gave Alma (4-6) a brief 11-10 lead. The Bluejays responded immediately with six consecutive points to take the lead once again. Elmhurst maintained its advantage for the remainder of the set, securing a 25-22 set two victory.
Elmhurst rattled off nine-straight points to begin the third frame, extending its lead to as many as 11 over the course of the set. The Bluejays earned the sweep with a dominant 25-12 set three win.
Katie Hurta led the Elmhurst offense, hitting .600 and putting down a match-high 14 kills. Webb recorded 10 kills on the night, while
Freddie Temple handed out 23 assists.
Elayna Ammerman anchored the Bluejays back row, totaling 16 digs, while
Paige Belfield and
Annabelle Muzzarelli were a strong presence at the net, tallying three blocks apiece. As a team, the Blue and White hit .306, finishing with 46 kills and 16 errors in 98 attempts.
