ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team improved to 10-4 overall and remained unbeaten in CCIW play after edging past Illinois Wesleyan University 5-4.
Elmhurst (2-0 CCIW) scored wins at two out of three doubles matches and split the six singles matches with Illinois Wesleyan(5-5, 0-1 CCIW) to earn the one-point victory.
In doubles play, Illinois Wesleyan's Brian Piotrowski and Brian Sorich stopped Elmhurst's duo of
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Elmhurst's duo of
Vincent McPherson and
Luke Tanaka tipped Nick Kenaga and Aaron Guenther 9-8. Elmhurst's
Kevin Noble and
Justin Guenther teamed up to down Steve Haymon and Ashwin Radhakrishan 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Bluejays received singles' wins from McPherson, Tanaka and Noble to to finish off the Titans. McPherson upended Kenaga 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Tanaka defeated Aaron Guenther 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Noble rolled past the Titans' Kevin Piotrowski 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
The Titans' Brian Piotrowski edged Harbert 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Sorich clipped Jung in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 7-6) at No. 2 singles. Haymon needed three sets (2-6, 7-6, 6-1) to defeat the Bluejays'
Jim White at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst travels to Wheaton College next Thursday (April 12).
