ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis improved to 13-8 overall and 3-2 in league play with a 7-2 victory over Augustana College.
Elmhurst won five of the six singles contests and two of the three doubles matches en route to the five-point win.
At No. 1 singles,
Alex Harbert toppled Brian DeSimone 7-6, 6-2.
Will Jung followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Augustana's Andy Wall at No. 2 singles.
Vincent McPherson needed three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) to upend Jack Cullen at No. 3 singles. Augustana's Colin Arnold edged
Luke Tanaka at No. 4 singles (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) to record the Vikings' lone win in singles play.
Kevin Noble defeated Kevin Bayles 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and
Justin Guenther dispatched Grant Wick 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Harbert and Jung tipped DeSimone and Wall 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. McPherson and Nobles downed Cullen and Arnold 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Bayles and William Palmer tipped Tanaka and Guenther 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst has secured the #3 seed at next weekend's CCIW Championship.
