ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team moved to 11-8 overall after splitting a pair of matches at the Brune Tennis Courts. The Bluejays downed MSOE 8-1 before falling to Coe College 6-3.
ELMHURST 8, MSOE 1 - The Bluejays scored their 11th victory of the season by racing past MSOE for an 8-1 win.
The Bluejays swept the three doubles contests and won five of the six singles matches en route to the win.
In doubles action,
Alex Harbert and
Will Jung blanked Juan Montenegro and Eric Klamrowski 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the Bluejays' duo of
Vincent McPherson and
Kevin Noble upended Zach Dam and Matt Slaughter 8-3. The Bluejays'
Justin Guenther and
Luke Tanaka defeated toppled Jeff Scarpelli and Nick Masura 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Harbert rolled past Montenegro 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Jung followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Klamrowski at No. 2 singles. McPherson dispatched Scarpelli 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Tanaka handed Andrew Kosasih a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at No. 4 singles. Noble needed three sets (7-6, 4-6, 10-4) to defeat Dam at No. 5 singles. Slaughter scored MSOE's only point by defeating White 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 at No. 6 singles.
COE 6, ELMHURST 3 - Coe (18-6) doubled up Elmhurst 6-3 in a match-up of regionally ranked squads. The Bluejays were ranked 13th in the latest regional poll while Coe was ranked 17th.
Elmhurst won two of the three doubles matches but Coe took five of the six singles matches to earn the win.
Harbert and Jung toppled Noah Sprinkel and Curtis Newman 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. The Kohawks pair of Jeff Damisch and Michael Woolf edged McPherson and Noble 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Tanaka and Guenther tipped Jonathan Roger and Michael Janssen 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Harbert scored Elmhurst's only win in singles competition. He upended Sprinkel 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles Victor Khristenko slipped past Jung 7-5, 7-5. Sean Stokstad rallied to defeat McPherson in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) at No. 3 singles while Damisch defeated Tanaka 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Newman downed Noble 6-4, 6-2 while Roger defeated White 6-1, 7-6 at No. 6 singles to close out the match.
