Men's Tennis Team Edged By Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team dropped to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the CCIW after falling 5-4 at Carthage College.

The two squads split the six singles contests while Carthage (15-7, 1-1 CCIW) took two of the three doubles matches to earn the victory.

Carthage's Jeff Lotz and Daneric Hazelman edged Alex Harbert and Will Jung 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. The Red Men's duo of Matt Whiteside and Nick Boomgarden defeated the Bluejays' Vincent McPherson and Kevin Noble at No. 2 doubles. Elmhurst's Luke Tanaka and Justin Guenther teamed up to defeat Alex McLean and Conor Moon 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Lotz edged Harbert in three sets (6-1, 6-7, 6-2) at No. 1 singles. Hazelman defeated Jung 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Whiteside toppled McPherson 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Tanaka blanked McLean 6-0, 6-0. Noble followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Boomgarden at No. 5 singles. Jim White closed out singles play with a three-set win (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) over Brian Howes.

Elmhurst hosts the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Coe College on Saturday (April 21).
