Men's Tennis Team Wins Pair of Matches

The Elmhurst College men's tennis team upped its record to 3-1 after toppling Oberlin College and Wabash College.

Elmhurst opened the day with a 7-2 victory over Oberlin and wrapped up the night with a 6-3 win against the host Little Giants.

ELMHURST 7, OBERLIN 2 - Elmhurst started the day with a seven-point win over Oberlin. The Bluejays won two of the three doubles contests before taking five of the six singles contests.

In doubles play, the Bluejays' duo of Alex Harbert and Will Jung upended Charlie Marks and Soren Zeliger 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Oberlin's Ben Turchin and Logan Chun edged the Bluejays' tandem of Vincent McPherson and Luke Tanaka 8-6. Elmhurst's Kevin Noble and Jim White scored an 8-4 win over Joe Leffler and Sam Towne at No. 3 doubles.

Harbert opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Chun at No. 1 singles. Jung followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marks at No. 2 singles. McPherson edged Tuchin in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 7-6) at No. 3 singles and Tanaka scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zeliger at No. 4 singles. The Bluejays' Kevin Noble defeated Towne 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Oberlin's Joe Leffler edged Justin Guenther 6-3, 3-6,7-6 at No. 6 singles.

ELMHURST 6, WABASH 3 - The Bluejays moved to 3-1 on the year by clipping the host Little Giants 6-3.

Wabash (5-2) jumped out to a 2-1 lead by winning two of the three doubles contests. Harbert and Jung toppled Peter Gunderman and Wade Miller 8-4 to score the Bluejays' their point in doubles play. Wabash's Daniel Delgado and Nate Koelper downed McPherson and Tanaka 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Wabash's pair of Evan Bayless and Ian Leonard toppled David Devaney and Noble 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Elmhurst put the match away in singles play. The Bluejays won  three of the first four matches to jump in front of Wabash. Harbert downed Miller at No. 1 singles in three sets (6-1, 6-7, 6-2). Jung followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Delgado at No. 2 singles. McPherson upended Gunderman 6-4, 6-4  at No. 3 singles. Devaney fell 7-5, 6-3 to Leonard at No. 4 singles. Noble downed Phil Kubisz 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6 singles to secure the Bluejays' fifth-point and earn the victory for the Bluejays. Tanaka defeated Koelper 7-5, 7-6 at No. 5 singles to give the Bluejays the 6-3 win.
