ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team fell to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the CCIW following a 5-4 loss to Carthage College at Courts Plus.
Elmhurst and Carthage (13-6, 2-1 CCIW) split the six singles contests, but the Red Men earned the 5-4 victory by taking two out of the three doubles matches.
Carthage's Jeff Lotz toppled
Alex Harbert 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. The Red Men's Daneric Hanzelman followed with a 7-6, 6-3 win over
Will Jung at No. 2 singles. Carthage's Matt Whiteside toppled
David Devaney 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Elmhurst won the next three singles matches.
Vincent McPherson defeated Alex McLean 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles while
Jim White dispatched Nick Boomgarden 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The Bluejays'
Justin Guenther edged Russell Mull 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Carthage's duo of Hanzelman and Lotz defeated Jung and Devaney 8-3 at No.1 doubles. Whiteside and Boomgarden teamed up to edge Harbert and McPherson 9-8 at No. 2 doubles. Elmhurst scored its doubles point at No. 3, with White and
Eric Moss earning an 8-3 win over McLean and Brian Howes.
Elmhurst hosts North Central College on April 21 at Berens Park.
