ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team scored a 6-3 victory over Wheaton College at the Brune Tennis Courts. The win over the Thunder was Elmhurst's first victory over Wheaton since the 2004 season.
Elmhurst scored wins in four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests.
Alex Harbert defeated Wheaton's Taylor Johnson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while
David Devaney toppled the Thunder's Joel Parrish 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
Vincent McPherson added a 6-1, 6-3 win over David Buursman at No. 4 singles.
Justin Guenther scored the Bluejays' final point in singles play by upending Sam Cannon 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, the team of Devaney and
Will Jung edged Wheaton's duo of Corey Chan and Miles Greenwald 9-8 at No. 1 doubles.
Eric Moss and
Jim White combined to defeat Parrish and Buursma 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst moved to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW with the victory. The Bluejays host Concordia University-Chicago on Thursday, April 14.
