HOLLAND, Mich. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team toppled Oberlin College and Hope College to run its record to 4-2 on the season.
Elmhurst opened the day by sweeping Oberlin 9-0.
Alex Harbert toppled Logan Chun 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Will Jung followed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Charlie Marks at No. 2 singles.
Vincent McPherson rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 win over Sam Towne at No. 3 singles while
David Devaney knocked off Joe Leffler 5-7, 6-2, 10-1 at No. 4 singles.
Dean Leventis (6-2, 7-6 over Eliot Heaton) and
Jim White (6-1, 6-2 over William Broderick) added wins at No. 5 and No.6 singles, respectively.
In doubles play Jung and Devaney toppled Leffler and Marks 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Harbert and McPherson followed with a 9-7 victory over Heaton and Chun. White and
Eric Moss teamed to defeat Sam Towner and Broderick 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst closed out the day with a 6-3 win over Hope. Elmhurst won four singles contests and two doubles matches to earn the three-point victory. Harbert opened with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Alex Hughes at No. 1 singles. Jung defeated Jon Lautz 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles while Devaney toppled Kevin Hagen 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. White added a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jeff Vredenberg at No. 6 singles. The Bluejays' duo of McPherson and Harbert defeated Jon Lautz and Parker Bussies 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while Moss and White scored an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles over Vredenberg and Brad Boelkins.
Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Saturday, March 12.
