WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's tennis team opened the season with a 7-2 win in Wisconsin over Carroll University.
The Bluejays swept the doubles matches and claimed victory in four of the six singles contests.
David Devaney and
Will Jung claimed victory at #1 doubles 8-4. Devaney lost at #1 singles 6-3, 4-6, 10-12 while Jung also suffered defeat at #3, 6-2, 3-6, 9-11.
Alex Harbart and
Vincent McPherson scored an 8-5 decision in the #2 doubles. Both won their singles matches as well. Harbert won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 at #2 singles for his first collegiate win with MacPherson also debuting with a victory at #4 singles in his debut by the same score, 6-4, 6-1.
Eric Moss and
Jim White needed a tiebreak to win 9-7 at #3 doubles. Other winners for Elmhurst included
Dean Leventis at #5 singles 5-7, 6-4, 10-8, and
Justin Guenther by a 2-6, 6-0, 10-6 count at #6 singles.
The Bluejays (1-0) will return to action next Saturday at Saint Joseph's College in Indiana.
