Five Bluejays Earn All-CCIW Volleyball Honors

CCIW All-Conference Volleyball Team

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Five members of the Elmhurst College volleyball team have earned all-conference recognition from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Megan Reynolds and Perrie Morgan were both named to the first-team while Sam Szarmach received second-team all-conference honors. Erin Thill and Antonéya Veasy Smith were both selected to the honorable mention squad.

Reynolds, a sophomore middle hitter, earned her second consecutive first-team selection after leading the Bluejays in kills (396), kills per set (3.17), hitting percentage (.380), blocks (151), and blocks per set (1.21). She currently ranks 15th in the nation in blocks per set and 19th in the nation in hitting percentage. Reynolds led the CCIW in blocks per set (1.46 in league games) while ranking fourth in kills and fifth in hitting percentage.

Morgan, a junior libero, earned first-team honors after garnering second-team accolades in 2010. Morgan ranked as the team's leader in digs (641) and digs per set (5.34). She also ranked third on the squad in service aces with 21. In conference games, she ranked third in digs, averaging 5.17 per set.

Szarmach, a freshman outside hitter, enjoyed a solid debut season with the Bluejays, ranking second on the squad in kills per set (2.62) and finishing third in kills (273). She also ranked third on the squad in digs per set (2.49) and services aces (36) while ranking fourth on the squad in digs.  Szarmach also led the CCIW in service aces, totaling 15 and averaging 0.62 aces per set in league contests.

Antonéya Veasy Smith
Thill, a junior setter, picked up the first all-conference honor of her career after leading the Bluejays in assists (959), assists per set (7.86), and service aces (37). She ranked fifth in the CCIW in assists, averaging 8.96 per set in conference games.

Veasy Smith, a junior outside hitter, earned the second all-conference honor of her career after earning honorable mention accolades in 2009. Veasy Smith ranked second on the team in kills (284) and ranked third on the squad in kills per set (2.35). She also finished fourth on the squad in total blocks with 50.

Elmhurst finished the 2011 regular season with a 30-5 overall record and are currently ranked 17th in the latest AVCA national poll.

The Bluejays will face Cornell College in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday (November 11) at Washington University in St. Louis.
