Bluejays Battle in Three Tight Sets at Carroll

Results

Elmhurst volleyball dropped a tightly contested road match at Carroll (WI), falling 3–0 (25–27, 24–26, 22–25) in CCIW play Wednesday night at Van Male Fieldhouse in Waukesha.

In the opening set, the Bluejays battled through eight ties in a back-and-forth start. Ashley Clardy and Paige Belfield powered the offense with key kills, while Keely Larson added a service ace to keep the pressure on the Pioneers. Elmhurst pulled even late at 24–24 before Carroll claimed the final two points to take the set, 27–25.

The second set mirrored the first, featuring 14 ties and long rallies on both sides. Clardy, Belfield, and Larson continued to lead the Bluejays at the net, while libero Alexis Casey provided stability in the back row. Elmhurst tied the frame again at 24–24, but Carroll edged out another narrow win, 26–24, to move ahead two sets to none.

In the third, Elmhurst looked to extend the match behind strong play from Blair Johnson and Larson, who each recorded multiple kills early. Belfield and Clardy added late points, but Carroll's offense held firm, closing out the set 25–22 and securing the sweep.

Clardy led Elmhurst with 15 kills and three block assists, while Belfield tallied 11 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Larson finished with seven kills, four block assists, and two aces. Johnson added seven kills and two block assists, and Nyah Moustakas chipped in three kills and a block assist. Setter Freddie Temple directed the offense with 37 assists and eight digs, while Casey anchored the defense with 16 digs and an ace. Gianna Ptaszek contributed four digs and two assists.

The Bluejays hit .181 as a team with 45 kills, and four service aces. Elmhurst moved to 7–15 overall and 1–4 in the CCIW and will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup against Saint Mary's College, friday Ocotber 17th.
