ELMHURST, Ill. - Three members of the Elmhurst College volleyball team have been named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) all-conference team. Caitlin O'Hara was chosen as a first-team selection while freshman Antonéya Veasy Smith was named to the second team. Sophomore Paige Fombelle earned all-conference honorable mention recognition.
O'Hara earned her second consecutive first-team selection at middle hitter after leading the Bluejays in kills (328), hitting percentage (.306), and blocks (118). The all-conference honor was the third of her career, after earning honorable mention accolades in 2007. O'Hara led the CCIW in hitting percentage (.368) and was named a CCIW Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season. An AVCA honorable mention All-American in 2008, O'Hara closed out her Elmhurst career ranked among the school's all-time leaders in both kills and blocks. She was named to the all-tournament teams at the Elmhurst Invitational and the CCIW Tournament.
Veasy Smith was named to the all-conference second team at outside hitter. In her debut season with the Bluejays, she ranked second on the team in kills with 246. She saved some of her best performances for conference games, finishing league play ranked among the league leaders in kills per game (2.64). Veasy Smith was one of just three freshmen named to the 21-player all-conference team.
Fombelle earned honorable mention all-conference recognition at middle hitter. She totaled 178 kills while ranking second on the team in blocks with 113. She was named a CCIW Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season and ranked third in the conference in blocks per game (1.00).
Elmhurst finished the 2009 season with a 17-17 overall record. The Bluejays placed fourth in the CCIW standings and qualified for the CCIW Tournament.
