ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons at the Lewis Cross Country Course on Friday, Sept. 4. Both teams finished fourth against a field of NCAA and NAIA teams.
On the men's side, the Bluejays were led by a fifth-place finish from junior Michael Bailey (19:58.9). Freshmen Scott Harvey and Sean Buckley, made their Bluejay debuts with Harvey finishing 18th (20:57.6) and Buckley 36th (22:26.6).
Junior Michael Johnson placed 42nd (22:55.1), while Jack Helms took 47th (23:23.2) to round out the lineup for the Bluejays.
On the women's side, the Bluejays scored 93 points, separating them from the fifth-place team by a 39-point margin.
Senior
Jessica Solar led the Bluejays with a time of 16:40.5, placing her 12th of 73 runners.
Paige Rewerts and
Morgan Ashcroft finished back-to-back, with Rewerts taking 17th (16:59.3), while Ashcroft checked in at 18th (17:00.2).
Sophomore
Joanna Rivera followed closely behind, placing 20th (17:08.9), while
Hannah Walker secured a 27th-place (17:35.4) finish to round out Elmhurst's top five.
Up Next: The Bluejays will travel to Warrenville, Ill. for the Gil Dodds Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College, on Saturday, Sept. 19. The women's race is set to begin at 10 a.m., while the men will take the course at 11 a.m.
