ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst Men's Basketball assistant coach John Cheng has accepted his first head coaching position and will lead the program at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

Cheng served the Bluejays for four seasons, as part of a staff that recorded a combined 64-34 record, a CCIW Tournament title, and appearance in the NCAA Division III national championship game. Between two stints at Elmhurst, Cheng served as assistant coach and interim head coach at NCAA Division II Hillsdale College (Mich.), where he helped lead the Chargers to an NCAA Division II national tournament appearance.

"We're very excited to see our Bluejay family take the next step in their careers, and wish John the best of luck at St. Olaf," said Elmhurst Director of Athletics Glen Brittich. "John was a key part of our staff and of the successes of the Elmhurst Men's Basketball program. His time at Elmhurst has prepared Coach Cheng for this leadership role, and St. Olaf will be in a great position with John leading their program."

Cheng is inheriting a St. Olaf program that went 15-11 overall last season, and 11-5 in the MIAC.
