Softball takes home sweep over Wheaton

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Bluejays secured their first doubleheader sweep in conference play on Monday afternoon, earning a pair of victories over Wheaton at Salt Creek Park.

Game 1
Elmhurst 4, Wheaton 1
WP: Hoyh (2-4) • LP: Dozeman

After a scoreless first inning the Bluejays broke through, taking advantage of a Wheaton error to score the first run of the day. The Thunder would even the score in the top of the 3rd, but Elmhurst's rally in the 4th inning gave the home team the lead the rest of the way. Bailey Proffitt's leadoff single and stolen base set the table for Maddie Kreich, would would reach on error and drive in the go-ahead run. Brenna Morley's two-out single drove in Kaylee Aimone for a 3-1 lead.

Aimone then drove in another run with a base hit in the bottom of the 5th, scoring Proffitt to close out the scoring.

Proffitt and Aimone each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Jays, while Hoyt pitched a complete game for the win, striking out seven along the way.

Game 2
Elmhurst 5, Wheaton 3

The Bluejays took control of game two with a four-run rally in the bottom of the 3rd. The first three batters would reach base, with Maddie Kriech hitting a two-run double down the left field line to score Danielle Hood and Josie Waite. Hailey Jenkins later would score a two-out RBI single to right, scoring Aimone for a 4-0 lead.

Wheaton would get on the board with a run in the top of the 4th, but another RBI single from Jenkins put the Bluejay lead back up to four. The Thunder closed the gap down the stretch, scoring two in the 6th and putting two runners on base in the 7th, but Adeline Denny shut the door to earn her first save of the season.

Kriech, Aimone, and Jenkins all picked up two hits in the win, with Kriech and Jenkins leading Elmhurst with two RBI apiece. Emma Lenczewski picked up her fourth win of the season after pitching 5.1 innings.

The Bluejays will look to carry the momentum into Tuesday's road trip to Carthage; Elmhurst takes on the Firebirds in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
