Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the 2023-24 campaign Saturday afternoon, downing Illinois College by a score of 5-4.

Elmhurst (1-10, 0-6 CCIW) was able to overpower the Blueboys in both doubles and singles play, leading to their first win of the campaign and the first for head coach Warren Harris.

Despite a setback at No. 1 doubles, the team of Giannis Varsamis and Ben Cavka picked up an 8-4 win on No. 2 and Adrian Songco/Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza won on No. 3, 8-5, putting Elmhurst ahead 2-1 after doubles.

In singles action, Cavka earned a 7-5, 6-0 win at court one to extend Elmhurst's lead to 3-1. Montenegro-Galarza fought his way back after a 6-3 first-set loss to win set two, 6-2, and take the tiebreaking set by a score of 10-5, putting another win on the board. Russell Reyes earned the final win of the day (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3 singles to secure the Bluejay victory.

Elmhurst wraps up the 2023-24 campaign next Saturday, April 27 with a match at Millikin University at 1:00 p.m.
