ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's basketball team checked in at No. 15 in the Week Three D3hoops.com National Top-25 poll, according to an announcement released by the website Monday afternoon.
Elmhurst has submitted their best start to a season in school history, standing at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. Elmhurst remains as the lone unbeaten squad in the CCIW, and is one of 18 teams in NCAA Division III without a loss.
Last Wednesday, Elmhurst handled Marian University in non-league action by a score of 88-65.
John Ittounas notched a team-high 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-6 mark behind the arc, to go along with a trio of assists and a pair of rebounds. Reigning CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week
Tagen Pearson followed closely behind with a 15-point effort that included another four treys to lead the Bluejays.
In the team's first ranked matchup of the season last Saturday, Elmhurst made a statement with a 74-59 victory over then-No. 22 Carthage on Saturday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Ocean Johnson led Elmhurst with a game-high 26 points on 8-for-18 shooting, including a 4-for-8 mark from beyond the arc, also adding eight rebounds,
allowing the senior to earn CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
Elmhurst is the only CCIW school ranked this week, with Carthage and Illinois Wesleyan in the "others recieving votes" category.
The Bluejays return to action this Sunday, Dec. 17, hosting Lawrence in the night cap of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team, with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
