Records Fall as Bluejays Take Third at NCC Slick Invite

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Multiple school records were broken as the Elmhurst University women's track and field team placed third at North Central College's F. Lee Slick Invitational.
 
A total of four Elmhurst school records were broken on the night as records fell in the 60 meter, 400 meters, 60 meter hurdles and triple jump. The Bluejays totaled 84 team points to place third overall. Lewis University totaled 249 points to finish first while North Central totaled 91 points to place second.
 
Ava David set a pair of Bluejay records by winning the 400 meters and placing second in the 60 meters. She became just the second runner in Elmhurst history to run the 400 meters in less than a minute. David won the race in 59.50 seconds. David crossed the finish line in 7.82 seconds in the 60 meters to place second.
 
Lams continued to better her own school record in the triple jump. She placed third by leaping to a distance of 11.46 meters on her second attempt. Lams added a sixth-place finish in the long jump by recording a mark of 5.35 meters.
 
Nakala Nadeua broke her own school record in the 60 meter hurdles, placing fifth in the race with a time of 9.13 seconds. Edith Mercado finished just behind, placing sixth in 9.24 seconds.
 
Erin Matthias (10.15 meters) and Francesca Scarabaggio (9.92 meters) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in the triple jump. Marisa Brown placed seventh in the long jump (5.17 meters) and Scarabaggio finished ninth (5.04 meters). The Bluejays added top-10 finishes in the high jump. Stefania Camaci placed third by clearing a height of 1.59 meters. Mallory Burke (1.44 meters) and Sarah Stephens (1.44 meters) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
 
Huda Hussaini added a seventh-place finish in the 60 meters, finishing the race in eight seconds even. She also finished ninth in the 400 meters in 1:04.32. Karmyn Flesch and Sadie Hartman combined for four points in the 400 meters. Flesch placed sixth in 1:02.46 while Hartman placed eighth in 1:03.68. The Bluejays' 4x400 relay team of Flesch, Stacia Landry, Hartman and Venezia Munoz won the race in 4:16.88.
 
Three Bluejays brought home top-10 finishes in the mile run and the 800 meters. Alyssa Rafuse was the first Elmhurst runner to cross the finish line in the mile, placing third in 5:20.64. Emily Gilligan added a seventh-place finish in 5:22.72 while Natalia Hernandez placed eighth in 5:24.69. In the 800, Lauren Mack finished sixth (2:29.56) while Venezia Munoz finished right behind in seventh place (2:29.88). Esther Brown (2:30.49) added an eighth-place finish in the 800.
 
Emily Clausen and Elita Spadlowski finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000 meters. Clausen placed fourth in 10:52.42 while Spadlowski placed fifth in 10:56.44.

Ericka Creek scored three team points in the weight throw. Creek placed sixth by recording a toss of 12.52 meters on her fourth throw of the night.

Elmhurst will compete in the 2022 CCIW Indoor Championships on February 25-26.
