RIPON, Wis. – The Elmhurst women's track and field team scored 69 points to place third out of 15 teams at Ripon College's Dick Hendricks Invitational.
Ripon won the team title with 117 point while Carroll placed second with 105.
Elmhurst had a strong day in the relay events, totaling 32 points over three events. The 4x200 squad of
Huda Hussaini,
Stacia Landry,
Ava David and
Hanna Matuszewski won the race by more than seven seconds, finishing with a time of 1:47.57. The squad broke a 19-year old Elmhurst record set during the 2001 season.
The Bluejays' 4x400 team of David, Hussaini, Landry and
Rachael Dickenson totaled eight points with a second-place finish. The squad finished the race in 4:14.17. The Bluejays' second squad of
Janelle Drogolewicz, Alysssa Rafuse, Alisandra Mondrella and
Kayley Burke totaled three points with a sixth-place finish in 4:24.50.
Elmhurst added five more points in the 4x200 as
Nicolette Capetillo,
Sabrina Urban,
Hayley Parr and
Yasmin Chavez finished fourth with a time of 1:55.12 The Bluejays' distance medley relay team of
Daniela Estrada,
Sarah Volle,
Becky Garcia and
Jennifer Claudio totaled six points with a third-place finish in 14:13.88.
The Bluejays' strong showing in the sprints continued as Elmhurst scored 12 points in the 400 meters. Hussaini finished fourth in the race in 1:02.21 while David placed right behind, crossing the finish line in 1:02.50 for fifth place. Landry placed sixth with a time of 1:02.95.
Matuszewski added two team points in the 60 meter dash, placing seventh in 8.18 seconds. Shea dded an additional top-10 finish in the 200 meters, placing 10th in 28.12 seconds.
The Bluejays totaled five team points in the mile run. Drogolewicz finished fifth in 5:40.43 while
Anna Kovats placed eighth in 5:49.30. Rafuse added three team points in the 800 meters, placing sixth in 2:28.03.
Michelle Diaz added a team point in the 3,000 meters, placing eighth in 11:49.78.
Briana Raysby cleared a height of 1.60 meters to place second in the high jump and collect eight team points.
Stefania Camaci added two points by clearing a height of 1.50 meters, good for seventh place.
Jayshawna Smith added a top-10 finish for the Bluejays in the weight throw, recording a toss of 13.38 meters, bettering her PR by over a full meter. Smith's toss ranks as the second-longest throw in school history.
Elmhurst will compete at the University of Chicago's Margaret Bradley Invitational next Saturday, February 22.
