Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst College volleyball team fell to 11th-ranked University of Chicago 25-13, 25-21, 25-13.

Chicago (26-3) raced out to an early lead in the first set, scoring six of the first seven points to build a five-point cushion at 6-1. The Maroons never trailed in the set, slowly pulling away to the 25-13 win.

Elmhurst (10-19) jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the second, but the Maroons surged back, pulling even at 13-13 before taking a 19-17 lead. Elmhurst pulled to within a point at 22-21, but Chicago responded by winning the next three points to take the second set 25-21.

With the score tie at 6-6 in the third, Chicago rattled off an 8-3 run to take control with a 14-9 lead. Elmhurst came no closer than four points for the rest of the set as the Maroons pulled away for the 25-13 win.

Elmhurst hit .068 for the match with 27 kills and 19 errors in 117 swings. Chicago finished the match with a .345 hitting percentage behind 47 kills and eight errors in 113 attempts.

Taylor Zurliene led Elmhurst in the loss with eight kills and eight digs.
Bailey Brouwer added five kills while
Kelly Townsend,
Emily Duis and
Kayla Mast tallied four kills apiece. Townsend added 17 assists and two aces while
Valerie Thomas led the squad in digs with 18.

Audrey Scrafford supplied the firepower for Chicago in the win, totaling 19 kills while hitting .500. Madison Pearson added 11 kills and Sarah Muisenga finished with nine. Anne Marie Stiffter finished with 16 digs for Chicago while Emma Griffith tallied a match-high 39 assists.

Elmhurst plays its final games of the 2018 season tomorrow at the Benedictine University Invitational.
