ELMHURST, Ill. — The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Augustana College, 3-1, on Wednesday night inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Augustana (6-13, 1-5 CCIW) took the first set, 25-23, despite Elmhurst (13-8, 2-2 CCIW) recording 14 kills. The Bluejays responded in the second set with a dominant offensive performance, tallying 18 kills, while hitting .366 to even the match with a 25-16 set two victory.
The Blue and White carried that momentum into the third set, overcoming a competitive frame to secure a 25-23 set three win. The Bluejays closed out the match in the fourth set, hitting .294 with 14 kills and limiting Augustana to 14 points to earn the 25-14 set four victory.
Katie Hurta led the Bluejays offensively with 17 kills, while hitting .378.
Samantha Webb added 13 kills, while
Amber Otto and
Freddie Temple contributed nine kills apiece.
At the net,
Maggie Cross led Elmhurst with four blocks, while Temple orchestrated the offense with 43 assists and added four service aces to her stat line as well. Defensively,
Elayna Ammerman paced the Bluejays with 23 digs, while Hurta and Temple recorded 15 and 13 digs respectively.
As a team, Elmhurst hit .252, recording 59 kills and 23 errors in 143 attempts. The Bluejays also held advantages in service aces (12-6), assists (57-39) and digs (76-49) to secure the conference victory.
