Bluejays Drop Pair of Close Contests at North Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 9-7 on the season after suffering a pair of close losses at 20th-ranked North Central College. The Bluejays fell 3-2 in game one and dropped game two by a 4-1 final score.

NORTH CENTRAL 3, ELMHURST 2 - North Central's Kayla Antle smacked a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Cardinals past the Bluejays 3-2.

Elmhurst led for nearly the entire contest, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second. Clare Bukowski led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Alyssa Jasinski followed with a run-scoring double to center. After a sacrifice bunt from Ele Walter, Jasinski scored on a Tiffany Potthast RBI single.

The Cardinals took advantage of an Elmhurst error in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Bluejays' lead in half. Elmhurst put two runners on with no outs in the top of the seventh, but the Cardinals managed to get out of the jam.

The Bluejays retired the first batter in the bottom of the seventh, but Cecie Portillo singled and Antle followed with the walk off-homer to hand the win to the Cardinals.

Potthast took the loss, despite allowing just four hits and two earned runs. She walked three and struck out one in 6.1 innings of work Vlasta Mangia picked up the win for North Central, limiting Elmhurst to only five hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work.

NORTH CENTRAL 4, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst jumped out to an early lead but the Bluejays stranded seven runners on base as North Central pulled away to finish the doubleheader sweep.

Jasinski put Elmhurst on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two-out RBI single. The Cardinals tied the score with a run in the top of the second and plated another run in the top of the third to open up a 2-1 lead. North Central tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to earn the 4-1 win.

Bella Masini recorded two hits to lead Elmhurst's offense in the loss.

Katie Boals took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned). She walked four and struck out four in seven innings. Andrea Starr picked up the win for North Central, scattering eight hits and one earned run.

Elmhurst (1-3 in the CCIW) travels to Carthage College on April 12.
