Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team improved to 6-4 on its season-opening Florida road trip by upending Hamline University 9-4 and Colby College 6-0.
ELMHURST 9, HAMLINE 4 - Elmhurst banged out 12 hits and plated nine runs while scoring their fifth win of the season.
The Bluejays scored a run in the first and then tacked on three runs in the second keyed by a run-scoring triple from
Mikayla Melone.
Clare Bukowski doubled home a run in the third and
Tiffany Potthast knocked home two more runs on a triple to give Elmhurst a 7-0 lead. Bukowski singled home a run in the fourth inning to extended Elmhurst's lead to 8-0.
Hamline took advantage of a pair of errors in the top of the fifth to score four runs and cut the Elmhurst lead in half, but the Bluejays' tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a
Bella Masini RBI single.
Masini finished 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while Bukowski finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Potthast drove in a team-leading three runs while also scoring a pair of runs.
Potthast recorded her third win of the season for the Bluejays from the circle. She scattered seven hits and one walk while allowing just four unearned runs. She struck out one while tossing a complete seven innings.
ELMHURST 6, COLBY 0 - Katie Boals pitched her second consecutive complete game shutout, leading Elmhurst to a 6-0 win over Colby College.
Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard in the second behind RBIs from
Brianna Thompson and Melone. Alyssa Jasinksi singled home Bukowski in the third inning to give Elmhurst a 3-0 lead.
Meg Griffin singled home a pair of runs in the sixth and Bukowski roped her second double of the game to knock home Griffin to account for the Bluejays' final three runs.
Jasinski finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI while Bukowski added a pair of doubles with a run scored and an RBI.
Boals was nearly flawless from the mound, limiting Colby to only three hits. She fanned four while not issuing a walk, improving to 3-1 on the season in the process.
Elmhurst wraps up its Florida road trip with games against SUNY-Potsdam and Middlebury College.
