Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team moved to 1-3 on the season after splitting a pair of games at the NTC Spring Games in Florida.
The Bluejays defeated D'Youville College 6-3 in their opening contest before falling to 4-1 to William Paterson University.
ELMHURST 6, D'YOUVILLE 3 - Elmhurst picked up its first win of the season by doubling up D'Youville 6-3.
After scoring an unearned run in the first, the Bluejays broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning.
Meg Griffin,
Clare Bukowski and
Mikayla Melone all singled home runs while
Tiffany Potthast drove in a pair with a two-run single.
D'Youville scored three runs in the fourth to cut the Bluejays' lead in half, but Potthast pitched out of a bases loaded jam to end the inning.
Katie Boals,
Rachel Cooke and Potthast finished with two hits apiece in Elmhurst's win.
Potthast notched the win for the Bluejays, working all seven innings and allowing just three earned runs and six hits. She walked two and struck out four.
WILLIAM PATERSON 4, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst dropped to 1-3 after suffering a three-run loss to William Paterson.
William Paterson scored a run in the third and took advantage of an Elmhurst error in the fourth to plate three runs.
Griffin singled home Elmhurst's only run of the game in the fifth. Griffin and Boals combined for four of Elmhurst's six hits, finishing with two hits apiece in the loss.
Boals suffered the loss for the Bluejays, allowing nine hits and four runs (just two earned) in seven innings of work. She walked two and fanned five.
