Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team kicked off its 2014 season by dropping a pair of contests at the NTC Spring Tournament. The Bluejays suffered a 4-2 loss to Macalester College and then fell 12-5 to the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
MACALESTER 4, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst banged out eight hits but the Bluejays stranded nine runners on base, including five in scoring position, while dropping its season opener 4-2 to Macalester.
Elmhurst jumped in front in the bottom of the first on a
Tiffany Potthast RBI groundout, but Macalester scored a run in the second and one in the fourth to open up a 2-1 lead.
Clare Bukowski tied the game for the Bluejays with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
Macalester took advantage of a pair of walks to go back in front in the sixth. Abby Cox singled home a pair of runs with a one-out single to give Macalester a 4-2 lead.

Mikayla Melone and
Meg Griffin recorded two hits apiece in the loss.
Potthast made the start for the Bluejays and took the loss, working six innings and allowing 10 hits and four earned runs. She walked four and struck out one.
Scarlett Pucci pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
UW-STOUT 12, ELMHURST 5 - Elmhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but UW-Stout scored four in the second and five runs in the third en route to the 12-5 win over the Bluejays.
Bukowski put the Bluejays on the scoreboard in the first, cracking a two-run triple to score Griffin and
Katie Boals. Potthast squeezed home Bukowski to give the Bluejays a three-run cushion.
Elmhurst's lead was short lived as UW-Stout took advantage of an Elmhurst error in the second to plate four unearned runs. Stout added five runs on four hits in the third to open up a 9-3 lead. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 12-3 after adding a run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Elmhurst scored its final two runs of the game in the sixth on a two-out, two-run single from Boals.
Griffin, Melone and
Alyssa Jasinski recorded two hits apiece for the Bluejays.
Pucci made the start for Elmhurst and took the loss, surrendering three hits and six runs (just one earned) in two innings of work. Boals finished the contest, working five innings and allowing nine hits and six runs (four earned).
Elmhurst takes on D'Youville and William Paterson on Friday (March 21).
